People can't deny it. Even Pap- sorry, Will's avid critic Joey de Leon recognizes(as shown by his satiric attacks to Will making him known as "Joey Tira" for his shows' fans) that Wowowee is rapidly rising in popularity threatening Eat Bulaga's three-decade long reign as the best noontime show in the country.
It's a no-brainer. Filipinos watch Wowowee making the show more popular and making Will another peso(a million perhaps) richer. Well except the President. Why?
I often watch the show and I have come up with several realizations. I realized how we, the Filipinos fared as far as education is concerned. It is quite disturbing though you may find it funny seeing someone not answering a seemingly very easy question(English-Tagalog translations and vice versa). Perhaps we expect stupid answers from stupid questions.
Another reason is that, we are really in crisis and that large gap between the rich and the poor in the Philippines could not be more larger. People in the upper crust handing money to the poor out of pity seems like a common scene. Filipinos show "talents" they won't even perform in their showers as a last-ditch attempt to gain money(five thousand pesos is a just a minimum). Not bad a consolation for public humiliation.
I hope as the show ages, people will participate in any Wowowee contest just for the fun of it and not because of the money it brings. If that happens, expect the President doing the Hep Hep Hooray.
